Making Waves: Generation of Intense Terahertz Waves with a Magnetic Material

Jun 28, 2024

Terahertz waves are being intensely studied by researchers around the world seeking to understand the "terahertz gap". Terahertz waves have a specific frequency that put them somewhere between microwaves and infrared light. This range is referred to as a "gap" because much remains unknown about these waves. In fact, it was only relatively recently that researchers were able to develop the technology to generate them. Researchers at Tohoku University have brought us closer to understanding these waves and filling in this gap of knowledge.

Study Reveals Reversible Assembly of Platinum Catalyst

Jun 20, 2024

Combo of methods explains how a nanoparticle catalyst assembles from single atoms during use and then disassembles for reuse.

Mapping Noise to Improve Quantum Measurements

Jun 20, 2024

One of the biggest challenges in quantum technology and quantum sensing is “noise”—seemingly random environmental disturbances that can disrupt the delicate quantum states of qubits, the fundamental units of quantum information.

Controlling ion transport for a blue energy future

Jun 20, 2024

Researchers from Osaka University show the control of ion passage through a nanopore membrane by applying a voltage to a gate electrode, paving the way for sustainable blue energy harvesting.

Extending the Kibble-Zurek Mechanism

Jun 20, 2024

A theory first applied to phase transitions in the early Universe and then to defects in superfluid helium can now account for a wider variety of systems.

A New Way to Transport Spin Currents

Jun 20, 2024

Spin currents carried by magnetic waves called magnons can be sent across a device without using insulating magnets—a result that could lead to spintronic devices compatible with silicon electronics.

Enabling tomorrow’s batteries through comprehensive materials analysis

During this webinar, hosted by the Volta Foundation, we explored the benefits of applying comprehensive and correlated battery materials analysis techniques. Find out how electron microscopy-based analysis in combination with confocal Raman microscopy/spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) deliver holistic solutions for R&D and manufacturing.
