The expectations around graphene come from huge potentialities for various applications (RF transistor, (bio)sensors…). Graphene high specific surface, mechanical resistance and conductivity make it specifically attractive for electrochemical storage applications. Its interfacing with molecules has been shown to tune its electrical/optical properties and to create functional materials. Graphene has also been modified with mineral composites to target higher energy density. Conjugated polymers alone or associated with graphene7 for supercapacitors applications have been reported.

The successful candidate will conduct research on solid-liquid interfacial interactions with a focus on wetting of surfaces and smart materials. It is located at the campus North of KIT and is associated to the Institute of Nanotechnology (INT). Research at BELLA combines fundamental work with application-driven projects on battery materials. The equipment of the laboratory allows for a variety of synthetic work, battery assembly, and characterization of both materials and cells. Furthermore, BELLA works in close cooperation with research units of BASF and KIT.

Positions exist, for Research Associates In integrated photonics of Graphene and related Materials. The aim is to develop a new class of integrated photonic and optoelectronic devices based graphene and related materials (GRMs), combining the versatile properties of GRMs with conventional three-dimensional semiconductors. Such devices will then be used in a wide range of applications such as on-chip optical routing, flexible optoelectronics, light emission, optical sensing and quantum communications. This is an ambitious research program, with a strong interdisciplinary nature, across photonics, plasmonics, device physics, electrical engineering and nanotechnology, and it will require the realization of novel devices for wide range of applications such as photodetectors, optical modulators, optical amplifiers, lasers, biosensors etc. based on integrated GRMs
