Dr. Milena Arciniegas is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Nanochemistry Department. Her main research topics are based on two issues: design and optimization of experimental methods for creating a robust approach to self-assembly of anisotropic nanocrystals; and hybridization with polymers for investigating the mechanical and optical responses of the nanocomposites. She has a first degree and MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad del Norte (Barranquilla, Colombia – 2002). She received her MScRes in Materials Science from Ghent University (Gent, Belgium) in October 2004; and a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia (Barcelona, Spain) in 2008. Her main research topic was the design and fabrication of new shape memory Ti-alloys for biomedical applications. Ph.D. studies were followed by a position as team member of integrated projects in The Advanced Manufacturing Research Center with Boeing (Sheffield, England), in which she led the fabrication and characterization of complex shapes in carbon/glass fiber composites via resin transfer moulding. She joined the IIT in 2012 when she took a postdoctoral position to work in the self-organization of nanocrystals and their hybridazation with polymers.
