Eurofer 97

By MBN Nanomaterialia

Steel for Nuclear Fusion Reactors Eurofer97-ODS is an oxide dispersion-strengthened (ODS) ferritic-martensitic steel powder, developed by MBN using high-energy ball milling process. This steel is obtained from elemental metal precursors with nano-scale Yttrium Oxide (Y₂O₃) dispersion. Eurofer 97-ODS is an advanced nuclear material engineered for high-temperature, high-radiation environments including fusion reactor components and advanced energy systems. The uniform nanoscale oxide dispersion enhances creep resistance, microstructural stability under irradiation, and radiation damage tolerance. With precise particle size distribution control, the powder delivers the flowability and packing density needed for advanced powder metallurgy consolidation techniques. Eurofer97-ODS powder is used for Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP), Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS), and extrusion, enabling production of dense, near-net-shape structural components with minimized material waste and machining costs. Applications by Cold Gas Spraying are also possible. Nuclear Applications include first-wall structures, breeding blanket components, thermal radiation shields, and high-temperature heat exchangers in demanding fusion and Gen-IV fission reactor environments.
