Wavelength Selective Switches (WSS) route individual wavelengths or wavelength groups in fiber-optic networks, above all in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems. They separate the incoming light into its wavelengths, switch each to the desired output port and recombine them, which lets operators reconfigure traffic dynamically. The high-precision diffraction gratings that do this separation and combination are manufactured with DTL.
