At Boston Micromachines, we offer an upgrade to further improve your mirror hardware, making your deformable mirror even more precise. The high resolution upgrade for the Kilo-Driver/S-Driver architecture enables control of our deformable mirror hardware with increased resolution. The Kilo-Driver has an increase from 14-bit to 16-bit step resolution, and the faster S-Driver has an increase from 12-bit to 14-bit step resolution over the full range of mirror deflection. Research scientists at NASA utilized the Kilo-Driver upgrade to 16-bit resolution when they designed new space telescope optics for coronagraphs. This design does more than just detect exoplanets, it also takes photos of them. To take the photos, a new technology called phase-induced amplitude apodization (PIAA) is used to develop an extremely powerful coronagraph. Click here to learn more about this exciting technology.

Custom Modulators Tailored to Your Application At Boston Micromachines, we know that cutting-edge optical applications often require more than off-the-shelf solutions. Whether you’re operating in non-standard wavelength ranges or pushing the limits of modulation speed, we offer customizable MEMS Grating Modulators designed to meet your specific performance needs. High-Speed Modulation Our MEMS Grating Modulators support high-speed operation with modulation frequencies up to 200 kHz. These devices maintain consistent performance across the full range and do not rely on resonance, offering flexibility across a variety of time-critical applications. If your requirements stretch beyond standard limits, we can explore custom configurations with higher operational rates. Extended Wavelength Compatibility While our standard devices are optimized for 600-1100 nm wavelength range, we have successfully extended performance into the 1300-1800 nm range and have demonstrated capability up to 2200 nm in proof-of-concept devices. These extended-range modulators require modifications such as higher drive voltages and are subject to additional testing and qualification. Contact us to explore how our modulator technology can be tailored to your application. Our team is ready to provide technical guidance, quote custom builds, and help you integrate the right solution into your system.

Thorlabs Fast Laser Power Modulator for Two-Photon Microscopy Fast Laser Power Modulator for Two-Photon Microscopy Use the Boston Micromachines MEMS Grating Modulator as an enabling component in the Thorlabs DC power attenuator and high-speed modulator. The all-reflective design incorporates the gold-coated MEMS Grating Modulator device that is polarization independent and introduces minimal (<100 fs 2 ) dispersion as a central component. This unidirectional device accepts a collimated, 1 to 2 mm (1/e 2 ) diameter input beam with 250:1) or high (2500:1) contrast ratios. The Fast Laser Power Modulator is available now through the Thorlabs website. Click below to find out more.
