High-Energy Ball Milling (HEBM) powder engineering

By MBN Nanomaterialia

MBN’s proprietary High-Energy Ball Milling (HEBM) technology enables the development of nanostructured powders with compositions and properties unattainable by conventional melting-based processes. HEBM is a solid-state manufacturing process based on mechanical alloying and mechano-chemistry reactions. It offers: - Solvent-free synthesis aligned with green chemistry principles - High reaction efficiency with lower energy input compared to traditional methods - Homogeneous elemental distribution within each powder particle - Ultrafine to nanocrystalline microstructures - Micron-scale particle size, compatible with all powder metallurgy and coating processes - Strict purity control using dedicated, inert atmosphere reactors Each metallic powder particle is a fully integrated composite, with all constituents intimately bonded—from pre-mixed to fully pre-alloyed. This enhances sintering behavior, enabling lower temperatures, shorter cycles, and improved final properties. With HEBM, MBN develops: - Innovative alloy systems not feasible via melt atomization - Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) with nanoscale reinforcement - Hybrid materials combining metals and ceramics for tailored performance - Novel inorganic compounds developed through mechano-chemical synthesis principles Despite their nanostructured internal structure, the powders remain stable, flowable, and safe to handle—with granule sizes suitable for sintering, HIP, thermal spray, laser deposition, and more. MBN’s HEBM platform opens new frontiers in powder metallurgy, delivering next-generation materials engineered at the nanoscale for industrial deployment.
