Blue Energy research (Capacitive Mixing / Reverse Electrodialysis)

By MP4MNT

Our research strives to harness blue energy, which involves converting the salinity gradient between fresh and salt water into electrical energy. We are optimizing carbon-based nanomaterials for Capacitive Mixing (CapMIX) and utilizing 2D material-based membranes like graphene oxide for Reverse Electrodialysis (RED) applications to enhance energy generation efficiency and sustainability in projects like intelWATT (European Union’s Horizon 2020). Additionally, we are developing innovative approaches for water purification and raw materials recovery. Our work spans from material synthesis and membrane design to system optimization, all employing a multidisciplinary approach. Ultimately, we aim to harness blue energy as a renewable resource while addressing global water and resources challenges.
