Liquids Research Limited, founded in 1990 by Professor K. O’Grady and Dr S. W. Charles, is a leading manufacturer of ferrofluids occupying modern facilities in the Mentec Technology Centre, a science park in Bangor, North Wales. The founders are internationally recognised as experts in the field of magnetic liquids, ferrofluids, magnetic inks, magnetorheological fluids and bioseparation, leading many research projects covering the fundamental aspects of these materials and other fields also based on fine magnetic particles. The company is continuously updated on the latest research and development and thus are an obvious choice for consultancy advice in these fields. The founders belong to a number of committees involved with magnetic liquids and are the authors of many original scientific papers. Ferrofluids and other magnetic composite materials are produced in the company’s well equipped laboratories augmented by access to additional research facilities available locally. In addition to the traditional ferrofluids based on hydrocarbon and diester technology, the company also has available fluids based on perfluoropolyether materials. Our vacuum grade fluids are used by magnetic rotary seal manufacturers throughout the EU, Asia, and the USA. Our biocompatible fluids for in-vitro applications are setting new standards for lysosomal assaying. New bio compatible magnetic nanoparticles are being developed for future applications as diverse as tumour therapies using magnetic nanoparticle hyperthermia techniques. Liquids Research Ltd has been active in the development of magneto-rheological (M-R) fluids for vibration control and damping. M-R- fluids offer excellent adaptive damping capabilities and are gaining ground in the automotive sector for use in M-R shock absorbers.
