Created through the merger of the activities of the National Optics Institute (INO) and the Computer Research Institute of Montréal (CRIM), Luqia is a brand-new industrial innovation lab operating at the intersection of academia and industry, bringing together expertise in artificial intelligence, advanced photonics, and quantum technologies under a single organization. It offers a unique research and development capability, along with high-performance pre-commercial prototyping, enabling discoveries in AI and photonics to be converted into market-ready products that generate major socioeconomic benefits for businesses in Quebec and across Canada, while also contributing to national security. Its activities, made possible through the ongoing collaboration of the Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie and Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, help improve productivity, increase business competitiveness, and strengthen Quebec’s and Canada’s technological autonomy. As a leader in high technology, Luqia has implemented more than 7,500 solutions, completed 84 technology transfers, and helped create 36 new companies employing more than 2,000 peopl. Luqia is also a founding partner of FABrIC, a major initiative, managed by CMC Microsystems and funded by the government of Canada, aimed at strengthening Canada’s capabilities in semiconductor design, prototyping, and manufacturing across strategic technologies including photonics, MEMS, quantum, and compound semiconductors. Through its involvement in integrated photonics projects, Luqia contributes to supporting key players in the semiconductor, telecommunications, datacom, and quantum sectors. Its innovative solutions support Canadian businesses in several key industries through six business units: - BiomedTech - Manufacturer, industrial and datacom - Defense - Space - Industrialized solutions - Artificial Intelligence
