DLS-1 Mass Spectrometer for Fusion Gas Analysis

By Hiden Analytical

The Hiden DLS-1 is a quadrupole mass spectrometer for real-time quantitative analysis of hydrogen isotopes, light gases and deuterated compounds in fusion research. Threshold ionisation mass spectrometry helps distinguish species with overlapping conventional mass spectra. Applications - Fusion research - Tokamak/Torus fusion research Real-time hydrogen-isotope analysis for tokamak research DLS-1 operates across 1–100 amu and uses tightly controlled electron energy with software-driven TIMS recipes. The software includes templates for deuterium in helium and other deuterated compounds, supporting fuel purity and complex gas mixture measurements where standard unit mass analysis is insufficient. The instrument is positioned for tokamak and torus fusion research, including quantitative monitoring of species relevant to fuel composition and vacuum conditions. TIMS recipes and conventional residual gas analysis modes support real-time investigation of demanding light gas mixtures. Key features of the DLS-1 fusion gas analyser - A 1–100 amu mass range covers hydrogen and helium isotopes, deuterated compounds and other light gases - Software-driven TIMS recipes provide real-time quantification of hydrogen and helium isotopes, and deuterated hydrocarbons - Standard electron energy control and a choice of ion sources allow ionisation conditions to be adapted to the target gas mixture - Sensitivity of 100 ppm D₂ in helium supports fusion fuel-gas purity measurements The system is supplied with MASsoft Professional software. This Windows 10 and Windows 11 compatible software allows control of the instrument via USB 2.0, RS232 or Ethernet. Provides comprehensive I/O for data output and for reading data from external devices for integration and display with mass spectrometer data.
