The solution is spread evenly across the floor as a uniform wet sheet, where it briefly conditions the polished surface into invisibly small traction pores. Instead of pooling into a slippery puddle, water now spreads into a thin, continuous film. When you step on it, the microscopic pores give the water somewhere to be displaced: it is drawn into the pores and held away from your shoe sole, allowing your foot to make firm, direct contact with the floor and gain grip rather than slip.
