Microwave Absorber Materials

By Accumet Engineering Corporation

Accumet stocks and delivers custom laser cut microwave absorber material. One of our preferred brands is ECCOSORB® high loss microwave absorber from Emerson & Cuming. It is designed to attenuate electromagnetic interference by converting RF energy to heat. Laser Cut Microwave Absorber Applications Applications vary from free space to cavities, and so do the solutions. Free space applications include reducing reflectivity from a metal surface to building small test chambers, shaping antenna beams and antenna isolation. Cavity applications include reducing or eliminating cavity resonances, isolating components with insertion-loss-reducing harmonics, and terminating signals in waveguides. We're located just north of Boston, Massachusetts in Devens, MA, and proudly service the entire US with many laser machining and secondary processing services. All of our materials are stocked in-house for optimal convenience.

Ceramic Substrates

Accumet is a preferred supplier and advanced processing center for a variety of high-quality ceramic substrates for high-power electronics, RF/microwave, military/defense, aerospace, and other semiconductor applications. To satisfy your quick-turn requirements, we carefully select and stock a large inventory of high-purity, high-performance alumina (aluminum dioxide — AlO2) and aluminum nitride (AlN) ceramic substrate materials from Toshiba, Kyocera, Coorstek, Ceramtec, Corning, and Dynasil. Our buying power allows us to offer very competitive pricing, flexible stocking plans, and custom processing services to help you optimize your supply chain. We're one of the few ceramic substrates suppliers and laser machining and processing manufacturers who will hold your ceramic substrate inventory until you need it. We guarantee that we can process, package, and deliver your materials on a just-in-time basis. Accumet's ceramic substrates can be professionally supplied ready to use, as we are experts in all areas of ceramic machining services, including polishing, dicing, lapping, grinding, marking, and laser cutting and drilling. As experts in the field of ceramic machining, we've honed our ability to provide the tightest tolerances on every level, from ultra-thin, ultra-smooth thicknesses and surfaces to the smallest and closest through-holes and vias. All of our ceramic substrate materials are stocked and supplied from our advanced manufacturing facilities in Devens, MA. When RF designers are weighing material choices and considering circuit design during prototype development, Accumet's material and process engineering expertise is there to guide them. Whether it be tapping into Accumet's extensive knowledge of ceramics and other RF materials, circuit design, anticipated yield loss, attainable surface finish, adhesion concerns, or any of the other multiple factors to be considered with regards to circuit manufacturability, Accumet's engineering staff is ready to help. Upon completion of lasered, lapped, or polished raw substrate orders, customers often ship the substrates back to Accumet after their manufacturing processes are complete for secondary processing. We ship worldwide, offer low minimum orders, and we deliver a full range of advanced manufacturing services from hands-on prototyping to full production runs, to ensure you get the most optimally prepared ceramics delivered on time, every time. Ceramic substrates are thin, flat plates of ceramic material — most commonly alumina (aluminum dioxide) or aluminum nitride (AlN) — used as the base material for electronic circuits, RF/microwave components, semiconductor packages, and other high-power or high-frequency assemblies. Their electrical insulation, thermal conductivity, and dimensional stability make them well-suited for applications in aerospace, defense, medical electronics, and telecommunications where organic substrates cannot meet performance requirements. Alumina (Al₂O₃) is the most widely used ceramic substrate material, offering good electrical insulation, reasonable thermal conductivity, and broad availability in grades such as 96% and 99.6% purity. Aluminum nitride (AlN) offers significantly higher thermal conductivity — making it the preferred choice for high-power devices where heat dissipation is critical — while maintaining strong electrical insulation. AlN is also more difficult to machine than alumina and typically carries a higher material cost. The choice between them depends on thermal management requirements, circuit density, and application environment. Accumet stocks high-purity, high-performance alumina and aluminum nitride (AlN) ceramic substrate materials from Toshiba, Kyocera, Coorstek, Ceramtec, Corning, and Dynasil. Substrates are available off the shelf in the exact quantities needed, including small prototype quantities. All materials are stocked and supplied from Accumet's manufacturing facility in Devens, MA, and can be delivered on a just-in-time basis. Accumet supplies ceramic substrates ready to use, applying machining services including polishing, dicing, lapping, grinding, marking, and laser cutting and drilling as needed before delivery. Tolerances range from ultra-thin, ultra-smooth thicknesses and surfaces to the smallest through-holes and vias. When RF designers are evaluating material choices or circuit design during prototype development, Accumet's engineering team can provide guidance on ceramics and RF materials, anticipated yield loss, attainable surface finish, and adhesion concerns. Accumet offers flexible stocking plans and will hold ceramic substrate inventory until a customer needs it, enabling just-in-time delivery from prototype through full production. Buying power across major substrate manufacturers allows Accumet to offer competitive pricing with low minimum order requirements. Accumet ships worldwide and provides custom processing services to help customers optimize their supply chains. AS9100 and ISO 9001 certifications govern quality and traceability across all substrate processing and delivery. Organic substrates such as FR-4 are lower cost and suitable for most commercial electronics, but they have limited thermal conductivity, lower dimensional stability at high temperatures, and moisture absorption that can affect high-frequency performance. Ceramic substrates offer superior thermal conductivity, tighter dimensional tolerances, and stable electrical properties across a wide temperature range — making them the preferred choice for RF/microwave circuits, high-power electronics, aerospace and defense assemblies, and medical devices where reliability under demanding conditions is required.
