Characterization of colloidal dispersions

By Institute for Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC-CSIC)

We offer a full colloidal systems characterization service (micelles, vesicles, liposomes, liquid crystals, microemulsions, nanoemulsions, etc.), highly specialized. Characterization includes determining size, morphology, phase transitions, rheology, and surface and interfacial properties. The Colloidal Dispersions Characterization Service is part of the ICTS (Singular Scientific-Technical Infrastructure) NANBIOSIS, an infrastructure for the production and characterization of nanomaterials, biomaterials and biomedical systems. Since October 2021, it has had a Quality Management System in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 9001:2015 standard, certified by AENOR under reference ER-0510/2021. Services - Determination of particle size and size distribution, aggregate morphology, radius of gyration and aggregation number by light scattering and light diffraction - Study of phase behavior of surfactant systems - Characterization of liquid crystals (morphology, repeat distance, etc.) - Characterization of rheological properties of fluids and viscoelastic systems, under deformation and flow regimes (viscosity, pseudoplastic or plastic behavior, dilatant behavior, elastic modulus and viscous modulus, relaxation times, etc.) - Measurements of surface and interfacial tension of pure liquids, surfactant systems and colloidal dispersions (molecule adsorption properties at liquid–air and liquid–liquid interfaces) - Determination of colloidal stability and surface charge - Contact angle measurements of liquids on solid materials - Differential refractive index measurements - Liquid density measurements
