Bacteria that Save Metals (MOBI)

By Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia

MOBI (Microbial Ore Bioleaching) is a bio-hydrometallurgical technique that exploits the ability of specific microorganisms to extract and dissolve metals classified as critical raw materials, such as those found in our smartphones. Once the device reaches the end of its life, this technique makes it possible to transform these underutilized wastes into new resources, recovering and reusing the valuable metals they contain.
