Several coatings can be used for lubrication. Low friction coatings such as Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2) or Tungsten Disulfide (WS2) are used most often but in different applications. Tungsten Disulfide (WS2) is used where close tolerances, high heat, or clean room environments are present. The MoS2 coating is used more as a sacrificial coating where "wear in" is necessary and a thicker coating is desirable.
