Imagion Biosystems is advancing MagSense mMRI — the first molecular MRI technology to integrate bio-safe magnetic nanoparticles with targeting molecules that selectively attach to cancer biomarkers. MagSense mMRI goes beyond improving resolution by detecting HER2+ breast cancer tumor signals as small as 1–2 mm, about one-tenth the size the current standard of care can detect. This molecular precision, combined with MRI’s anatomical detail, delivers clearer, more confident imaging to support earlier, more definitive diagnosis when treatment can have the greatest impact. Tiny magnetic nanoparticles are combined with tumor targeting molecules to produce a detectable magnetic signature. MagSense technology does not use ionizing radiation or radioactive tracers and is specific for different types of cancer or other diseases. The non-invasive imaging technology has the potential to reduce the need for biopsies and could find cancers before they progress to a later stage. MagSense mMRI have been developed for multiple types of cancer using known cancer-specific biomarkers. Our Phase II study will assess the diagnostic performance of MagSense in identifying nodal metastases, while optimizing MRI protocols and timing. We are also measuring concordance with current standards of care and continuing to evaluate safety in a broader patient population.
