RKD Engineering develops a series of acid decapsulation tools which use the jet etching process. Our automated IC decapsulation systems allow an individual to safely open a wide range of packaged semiconductor devices. We offer the most reliable failure analysis and sample preparation solutions for integrated circuits. Our systems expose delicate silicon die surfaces and fragile bond wires made of Gold, Aluminum, Copper, and now Silver. RKD Engineering also provides precision mechanical precavition tools.

RKD Engineering’s Mount Plate is a unique hot plate used for mounting integrated circuit packages with special wax. Packages are mounted in preparation for precavitation, heat spread/sink removals, specialized mechanical preparations and other typical usages for high temperature heating. Mounting IC Packages for Sample Preparation The Mount Plate heats the metal holding fixture at a programmable rate to prevent thermal damage to the sample being mounted. When the melting point of the wax is reached, the operator is prompted to mount and align the sample. The device then cools the holding fixture at a controlled rate, setting the mounting wax. When the sample is cooled to an ambient temperature, the operator is prompted to remove the mounted device and holder. The Mount Plate 5800 allows fast and accurate sample mounting. It receives standard RKD Engineering part holding fixtures and can be operated under a microscope for precision part alignment. Features: - Accurately controlled sample temperature - Controlled heating rate to minimize thermal stresses - Controlled cooling rate - Fast cycling - Easy to use operator interface - Special cycle for manual acid decapsulation - Low profile - can be placed under a microscope Specifications Dimensions: Height: 133 mm (5.25 in); Width: 165 mm (6.5 in); Depth: 280 mm (11 in) Weight: Approx. 3 kg (7 lb) Power Source: 90 to 250 VAC, 50 to 60 Hz (4 amp) Temperature Range: 30° to 140° C Heating Up Rate: 0.1° to 0.8° C/s Cooling Down Rate: 0.1° to 0.8° C/s Soak Time: 1 to 60 s Rest Temperature: 30° C nominal Temperature Accuracy: +/- 1° C Downloads Brochure Spec Sheet

RKD Engineering offers unique gaskets or kits of commonly sized gaskets for use with our decapsulators. This proprietary material can withstand temperatures of up to 240° C, is highly resistant to corrosive chemicals, and lasts up to 12 times longer than competing gasket materials. The gasket kits provided by RKD Engineering are designed for use in decapsulator machines where a precision etch must be achieved. A basic gasket will feature a rectangular “pocket” in the dimensions of the integrated circuit package, and a “through-hole” where the etching fluid is to be dispensed. Etching fluid passes the through-hole in the gasket and removes the packaging material for the duration of the operation. While gaskets are available in customer specific dimensions, ideally gaskets should be made with the Nano Mill II for unique operations. The location of the die surface and the bond wires may differ from the location revealed by a pre-made gasket. Blank gaskets are therefore available for purchase and customization. The proprietary gasket material can withstand temperatures of up to 240° C, is highly resistant to corrosive chemicals, and lasts up to 12 times longer than competing gasket materials.

Accessory kits give you more control over the precision of your sample preparation. Each device ships with a standard kit with additional accessories available for purchase. To get the most value from your machine it is recommended that the full suite of tools and accessories be used. Best practices for obtaining an ideal sample involve using the right set-up for the job. This includes a correctly sized ram-nose, a precision cut gasket, a fitted alignment plate, and an electrostatic discharge-free environment. There is no need to etch multiple samples when you can get it right the first time with our product specific accessory kits.

RKD Engineering, Corp designs and manufactures positive displacement diaphragm metering pumps and fluid handling systems. These pumps have all PTFE wetted parts and are pneumatically actuated to totally isolate the fluid path. They are primarily used in our own semiconductor failure analysis products to handle highly corrosive fuming nitric and sulfuric acids as well as organic solvents. We also offers custom pumping systems tailored to industry specific needs with multiple sources, valves, fluid flow measurement, and customized user interface control.
