Electrospinning Technology & Capabilities

By NTP Research

Our nanofiber development work is built on electrospinning. We also use electrospraying, a related electrohydrodynamic process, when particles or coatings suit an application better than fibers. Electrospinning applies a high voltage to a polymer solution, drawing it into a fine jet that dries into continuous fibers. The fibers collect as a nonwoven mat, with diameters that typically range from tens of nanometers to a few micrometers. By adjusting the formulation and process conditions, we can tune the properties that matter for a product: - fiber diameter and morphology - porosity and mat thickness - fiber orientation, random or aligned - active ingredients or functional additives built into the fibers This lets us design a material around its intended function, such as how it dissolves, releases an active ingredient, or interacts with air and liquids.
