Custom Experimental STEM Holder Engineering for Nion Microscopes
Hummingbird Scientific supports compatible Nion (now a wholly owned subsidiary of Bruker Corporation) ULTRASTEM and HERMES scanning transmission electron microscopes with systems for custom experimental workflows. Product fit depends on the microscope and stage configuration, holder access, sample format, electrical connections, controller requirements, and intended experiment. Contact Hummingbird for confirmation of the appropriate standard or custom system, interface, and purchase path. Specialized device, electrical, thermal, and atomic-resolution experiments may require more than a standard holder configuration. Hummingbird can evaluate custom sample carriers, electrical routing, air-sensitive transfer tools, controllers, modified holder tips, and stage-specific mechanical interfaces for compatible Nion microscopes. If samples or devices must move between instruments, related carriers, transfer hardware, and experimental interfaces can be developed to preserve the sample configuration or handling conditions where practical. When an existing product does not meet the requirement, Hummingbird can define the holder geometry, sample format, electrical and control hardware, and workflow path around the experiment.
Custom sample holder development service for ZEISS microscopes
Yes. Because we operate our own machine shop and microfabrication facility, we specialize in "one-off" or bespoke modifications for experiments that standard catalog holders cannot support.
Custom sample holders
Modified standard holders or entirely new architectures. Unique specimen environments, non-standard tilt ranges, combined stimuli, air-free transfer configurations, or microscope-specific integrations across TEM, SEM, and FIB platforms. Platforms: TEM· SEM · FIB · X-ray Options: Multi-stimulus · Air-free · Custom tilt
Custom experimental engineering for Rigaku XtaLAB Synergy-ED
Hummingbird can review the instrument configuration, holder interface, sample format, tilt requirements, controllers, utilities, and experimental conditions before quotation. For Rigaku systems, custom development can include sample carriers, MEMS chips, electrical routing, environmental cells, gas or liquid delivery hardware, air-sensitive transfer mechanisms, tomography tips, controllers, and application-specific holder configurations. Hummingbird can modify sample carriers, holder tips, MEMS devices, environmental cells, transfer tools, and supporting hardware when a standard configuration does not meet the experiment.

DECARBONISING BITRI - BITRI SOLAR PV PROJECT
BITRI has implemented a 500 kWp Solar PV system combining rooftop, carport, and tracker installations to cut carbon emissions and reduce operational costs. The system is grid-connected with diesel backup, generates 820 MWh annually (covering about 70% of BITRI’s energy needs), and includes EV charging capabilities. This project demonstrates the viability of renewable, cost-effective energy solutions for existing buildings in Botswana.

Automated Coating Removal Tool (ACRT)
In this continuation of a prior effort, Cybernet is designing and building a compact, portable Automated Coating Removal Tool (ACRT) for Air Force maintainers by leveraging our experience with designing and developing robotic systems. During Phase I, Cybernet demonstrated the ability to robotically remove these coatings, while using force sensing to detect the transition between layers to insure proper repair shape and eliminate damage to the substrate. For this Phase II SBIR effort, Cybernet will focus on developing a very precise, automated, rapid measurement and coating removal system that can precisely grind/sand away aircraft coating and precisely monitor the progress of the process.
Small Caliber Ammunition Inspection System
Cybernet is to build and deliver an ATACS unit capable of inspecting small caliber ammunition ranging from 9 mm to.50 caliber. The standard system can be tailored to new round types or requirements as necessary. The ATACS machine can sort and inspect small caliber ammunition or cases at rates exceeding 5,000 rounds per hour. The system has been deployed as part of the Army’s Ammunition Peculiar Equipment (APE) program and is currently fielded at both CONUS and OCONUS Army installations.

Complementary Positioning, Navigation, & Timing (C-PNT)
Robust and secure navigation presents a significant challenge to the UAM industry, particularly in urban settings with interference and multipath issues. Unlike traditional aircraft, UAM vehicles demand stringent performance from onboard navigation systems due to reliance on fewer ground infrastructures, more complex take-off and landing conditions, and higher airspace density. The heavy dependence on GNSS exacerbates the problem, as standalone systems lack resilience and redundancy in degraded environments. ENSCO addresses this with a low SWaP RF-based navigation system, leveraging FAILSAFES™ (Fusion Artificial Intelligence Link Synchronization Array) technology. FAILSAFES utilizes distributed RF ranging links to enhance navigation precision and accuracy, offering flexibility and resilience in challenging environments. With demonstrated centimeter-level accuracy, ENSCO's solution ensures reliable navigation for UAM platforms.
Agile Radio Frequency (RF) Ranging
More precise and accurate RF ranging, longer range of operation, and more implementation flexibility than traditional ultra-wideband techniques.
Personnel Navigation, Locating & Tracking
Custom pedestrian navigation solutions that feature robust, real-time positioning, tracking and locating where GPS service is degraded or unavailable.
