Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are being studied for water treatment and filtration membranes to reduce microbial contamination and biofilm formation. AgNPs can be incorporated into polymeric membranes, ceramic filters, nonwoven filter media, and water-treatment coatings to limit microbial growth and biofouling. AgNPs-modified systems are researched for drinking-water, industrial and wastewater treatment, point-of-use water filters, and water-reuse applications. AgNPs may be immobilized on filter surfaces, embedded in membrane matrices or combined with other functional materials to reduce bacterial adhesion and biofilm development while maintaining filtration efficiency. Performance depends on AgNP size, concentration, stabilization, dispersion, immobilization method, membrane pore structure, water chemistry, and operating conditions. Final membranes and filters require testing for antimicrobial activity, biofouling resistance, permeability, filtration efficiency, durability, and silver release. NanoBrand supports AgNP selection, including stabilized dispersion compatibility.
