The company has developed a unique approach to integrate SNSPDs (Superconducting Nanowire Single Photon Detectors) on a chip waveguide. Pixel Photonics combines the superior features of SNSPDs with the versatility of an integrated photonic platform to provide highly parallelized, efficient and ultra-fast single-photon detection. While SNSPDs are inherently threshold detectors and insensitive to the number of photons in a detection event, waveguide integration and parallelization enable the use of SNSPDs for photon counting, paving the way for high-performance and scalable photonic quantum computing. In addition, waveguide-integrated SNSPDs are suitable candidates for realizing or enhancing applications such as secure quantum key distribution (QDK), light imaging, detection and ranging, and bioimaging in microscopy. Both the chip fabrication and the packaging are designed and manufactured in-house in Münster to ensure efficient, ultra-broadband, ultra-low noise and very fast devices.
