Durham, 28 October 2026. Wolfspeed, Inc. (NYSE: WOLF) announced a multiyear supply agreement to provide silicon carbide devices to BorgWarner. The devices will support BorgWarner's next-generation 800V silicon carbide-based inverter platform. Wolfspeed is based in Durham, North Carolina.
BorgWarner is using Wolfspeed's 1200V silicon carbide technology for its 800V inverter platform. Wolfspeed's Gen 5 silicon carbide technology is designed to support the efficiency, performance and reliability requirements of next-generation automotive power electronics. The agreement is intended to give BorgWarner consistent, uninterrupted access to Wolfspeed silicon carbide devices.
The agreement strengthens the companies' longstanding collaboration. The companies did not disclose the financial terms or the length of the agreement.
"Our strategy is to combine our technology leadership with deep, long-term customer partnerships," said Matthias Buchner, SVP, Global Sales & Chief Marketing Officer at Wolfspeed. "Our supply agreement with BorgWarner demonstrates that strategy, bringing together advanced silicon carbide technology, proven quality and reliability, and scaled 200 mm manufacturing capabilities to deliver the performance and supply confidence BorgWarner needs for their next-generation EV platform."
Wolfspeed said its U.S. manufacturing capabilities have fully transitioned to 200 mm wafers. The company said its silicon carbide solutions are engineered to perform in demanding, high-heat and high-voltage environments.
Wolfspeed cited electric vehicle adoption as context for the agreement. According to the release, electric vehicles accounted for 25% of new cars sold globally in 2025, and the International Energy Agency projects EVs could represent approximately half of global car sales by 2035.

Wolfspeed and Infineon expanded and extended their long-term silicon carbide wafer supply agreement. The deal adds 200 mm silicon carbide wafers to the existing 150 mm supply.

A β-Si3N4 nanolayer about 20 nm thick and continuous over several micrometers has been formed between carbon and silicon carbide without conventional oxide sintering additives, using a porous carbon framework infiltrated with molten silicon. Complementary atomic-resolution imaging resolved both silicon and nitrogen sublattices, confirming the ABAB stacking and corner-sharing tetrahedral network, while electron energy-loss spectroscopy and first-principles calculations linked the spectra to…

AlixLabs has introduced Power ALE™, an Atomic Layer Etching platform for wide-bandgap power semiconductors. It supports 150, 200 and 300 mm wafers and targets SiC trench sidewall smoothing and GaN HEMT gate recess.
