AgNP selection and formulation development for antimicrobial coatings

By NanoBrand

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) can be incorporated into polymer, sol-gel, resin, hydrogel, and paint matrices to produce antimicrobial coatings that resist microbial colonisation. In cured coating films, AgNPs may limit microorganism growth through silver-ion release, reactive oxygen species, and interactions with microbial membranes and intracellular processes. Coating performance depends on AgNP size, concentration, surface chemistry, dispersion, matrix, film thickness, and environmental exposure. Applications include hospital and public-space surfaces, doorknobs, handrails, countertops, mobile devices, medical-device components, protective equipment, and antimicrobial paints. Final cured coatings should be tested for microbial reduction, biofilm inhibition, silver release, adhesion, abrasion resistance, wash durability, and aging. NanoBrand supports AgNP selection and formulation development, including particle-size selection, concentration optimization, surface stabilization, and compatibility with coating matrices.
