AgNP selection and surface stabilization for dental and orthopaedic materials

By NanoBrand

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are being investigated for antimicrobial dental and orthopaedic materials, including coatings, composites, adhesives, acrylic resins, implant surfaces, bone cements, and tissue-contacting devices. Their small size and high surface area can help limit bacterial colonisation and biofilm formation. In dentistry, AgNPs may be used to address dental plaque, oral bacterial and fungal contamination, and gum-healing environments. In orthopaedics, AgNP coatings are researched for titanium implants, joint prostheses, fracture-fixation devices, and scaffolds to reduce bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation at the bone–implant interface. Performance depends on AgNP size, concentration, dispersion, coating thickness, silver-release profile, adhesion, wear resistance, mechanical properties, cytotoxicity, osseointegration, and long-term biocompatibility. Finished dental materials and orthopaedic devices require intended-use testing. NanoBrand supports AgNP selection, surface stabilization, resin or composite dispersion and compatibility studies.
