15 October 2026. The Materials Research Institute (MRI) at Pennsylvania State University is launching a new solution with the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) that provides automated, high-speed transfer of data from all MCL electron microscopes directly to ICDS.
ICDS provides Penn State researchers with secure, scalable infrastructure for storing, managing, and computing on research data, with direct connectivity to high-performance computing resources. The new solution creates a pathway from data collection to secure storage, collaboration, and advanced analysis and computing.
The release states that this infrastructure was leveraged in Penn State's successful $20M LATTICE Programmable Cloud Laboratory proposal, helping position MCL for increasingly data-intensive and automated research.
Getting started requires only a free ROAR account. More information on the MCL workflow or ROAR storage options is available from Wolf Hey at wolfhey@psu.edu.
The 2DCC-MIP is funded by NSF cooperative agreement DMR-2039351.
