Vancouver, March 2026 — Nano One Materials Corp. has received $3 million in funding from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to accelerate the development and commercial scale-up of its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials.
The funding, which runs through March 2028, will support optimization of the company’s patented One-Pot™ process. This innovative technology aims to produce LFP more efficiently, at lower cost, and with greater regional supply chain flexibility compared to conventional methods.
The investment will focus on process optimization, commercial readiness, and diversification of iron feedstock sources. Work will be carried out at Nano One’s R&D facilities in Burnaby, British Columbia, and its pilot and demonstration plants in Candiac, Québec. Strategic shareholder Sumitomo Metal Mining will collaborate on technical development and validation.
“We are very grateful to NRCan and the Government of Canada for their continued support,” said Nano One CEO Dan Blondal. “These funds support us as we bring cost-competitive and scalable LFP processing technology alternatives to markets, strategic partners and customers around the world.”
LFP is a critical battery material used in electric vehicles, grid energy storage, data centers, and defense applications. According to the International Energy Agency, nearly 98% of global LFP cathode materials currently originate from China, making supply chain diversification a growing priority for Western nations.
Nano One’s One-Pot process stands out because it can utilize alternative iron sources from multiple regions, reducing dependence on traditional iron phosphate precursors and enhancing supply chain resilience. The company is targeting three key markets: Defence and National Security, Energy Storage Systems, and Electric Vehicles.
The Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, said: “We’re building a stronger, more productive, and increasingly prosperous Canada by supporting companies like Nano One that innovate here at home.”
