Atomic force microscopy in 3D

Jul 15, 2024

Researchers at Nano Life Science Institute (WPI-NanoLSI), Kanazawa University report in Small Methods the 3D imaging of a suspended nanostructure. The technique used is an extension of atomic force microscopy and is a promising approach for visualizing various 3D biological systems.

Hexagonal Perovskite Oxides: Electrolytes for Next-Generation Protonic Ceramic Fuel Cells

Jul 15, 2024

The material's high proton conductivity and chemical stability at temperatures of 200–500 ℃ can pave the way for more durable fuel cells

Making Waves: Generation of Intense Terahertz Waves with a Magnetic Material

Jun 28, 2024

Terahertz waves are being intensely studied by researchers around the world seeking to understand the "terahertz gap". Terahertz waves have a specific frequency that put them somewhere between microwaves and infrared light. This range is referred to as a "gap" because much remains unknown about these waves. In fact, it was only relatively recently that researchers were able to develop the technology to generate them. Researchers at Tohoku University have brought us closer to understanding these waves and filling in this gap of knowledge.

Study Reveals Reversible Assembly of Platinum Catalyst

Jun 20, 2024

Combo of methods explains how a nanoparticle catalyst assembles from single atoms during use and then disassembles for reuse.

Mapping Noise to Improve Quantum Measurements

Jun 20, 2024

One of the biggest challenges in quantum technology and quantum sensing is “noise”—seemingly random environmental disturbances that can disrupt the delicate quantum states of qubits, the fundamental units of quantum information.

Controlling ion transport for a blue energy future

Jun 20, 2024

Researchers from Osaka University show the control of ion passage through a nanopore membrane by applying a voltage to a gate electrode, paving the way for sustainable blue energy harvesting.
